The thought of moving my father out of his home he had become so comfortable in was enough to have me stop thinking of it all together. It took a stroke for my sister and I to finally commit to calling Brittany at Your Next Steps to begin our process. Our dad's house had a lifetime of stuff. We’re talking about decades of newspapers, war footage, a closet full of old hats and cases of expired Pepsi. We had no idea where to start. When the girls came in we immediately felt at ease, they asked the right questions, gave us to do lists and checked in on us almost daily to make sure we were keeping up with our end of the duties. We were SHOCKED at how quickly they removed all of the old stuff. Much of the contents we would have called garbage were donated by the YNS team to organizations that help with new Canadians who can’t afford to furnish their places (which made us happy). Dad moved into a Chartwell home closer to my sister and I. He seems to be adapting well (although he misses that God awful chair he sat in for years). We were amazed how much the YNS team did and how much they kept us involved. We recommend them to anyone looking to help with their parent’s next stage of life.

My siblings and I hired Your Next Steps when our mother decided to sell our family home. My parents owned the house for nearly 40 years so you can imagine the build up of life, memories and contents in the home. They helped us not only find a perfect home for our mom to move to that suits her physical needs, but walked us through every step of the way. Cleaning, organizing, packing, house preparation and so much more. We got more than expected for the sale of the house and mom is now happy and safe in her new retirement facility!
